Gold and silver jewels worth Rs.50 lakhs-plus was stolen by the maid of a family who reside in Sri Karneeswarar Koil Second Street, Mylapore. Police have arrested the maid.
Padma is a retried govt employee; she is 85. Manimekalai was employed as a maid and she worked here for some 20 years.
On Nov.5 afternoon, Manimakelai left a bit early after her work at Padma’s house.
That evening, Padma realised a trunk box containing jewels and cash was missing She alerted E1 Mylapore Police Station and a police team began to pursue the case.
A team led by Dhanaselvan, ACP and Ravi Inspector of E1 co ordinated the search for the suspect – the maid.
They nabbed Manimekalai in Mandaveli.
Police said Manimekalai has admitted that she stole the jewellery since she was under pressure to repay a loan she has taken for her husband’s medical treatment
Stolen jewels and cash has been recovered.
