Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan season festival starts today

The Chennai kendra of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is hosting its December Season Fest from Nov. 21 to December 12 at its auditorium in East Mada Street, Mylapore.

Yes, the season now runs from November to accommodate the festivals of many sabhas and provide the stage for more artistes.

Rasikas stand to gain here – many get free admission to concerts by the best and early too. Some would joke, before the mist or the strain gets to their vocal chords.

The BVB space is a good one for recitals.

From Aruna Sairam and S. Sowmya to Sudha Ragunathan and O S Thiagarajan the biggies are starred here besides the young talented and the trusted too.

Even guitarist Prasanna is featured in the schedule – he has been rarely performing at the ‘season’.

Jennifer A. Mclntyre, Consul General of the United States of America will inaugurate the event at 6 p.m.

Two awards of Rs.1 lakh each instituted by late P. Obul Reddy and late P. Gnanambal Memorial trust will be presented to Padmashri awardee Aruna Sairam and violin duo Ganesh and Kumaresh.

Bhavan’s Chennai Kendra Cultural Awards will be given to Seshampatti Sivalingam, K. Sethumadhavan, R. Lakshminarayanan and Sruthi Sagar.

Literary and musical discourses will be held for 14 days in the morning.
