Avenue trees in Alwarpet, R. A. Puram could collapse since root systems are tarred

Wednesday evening’s rough winds and rain may have a pointer of what may befall C. P. Ramaswamy Road and parts of R. A. Puram which are populated with avenue trees in public spaces.

This evening, the trees swayed a tad widely and motorists could notice this as they tried to negotiate the rush hour and the beating rain.

Almost all avenue trees on C P Ramaswamy Road are damned at their root systems with tar, stone and cement, choking them and leading to their fall in times of inclement or windy weather.

Some shop owners have either chopped down or trimmed avenue trees to let their shops get a better look off the main road. R A Puram residents have also complained that people have chopped trees without a OK from the civic body.
