Part of MTC bus roof ripped off as it brushes avenue tree protruding on to St Mary’s Road

A tree on St. Mary’s Road is posing a serious danger to MTC buses and private lorries.

This morning, a nasty accident to a bus caused limited damage. And this was a lucky escape.

Around 6.30 am, a MTC bus on route number 21G was proceeding from TTK Road to St. Marys Road.

Opposite St Francis Xavier’s School gate, there was a barricade on the right side of the road to facilitate painting of the zebra crossing mark and the bus driver took the extreme right hand side of the road.

While doing so, the bus hit the large, heavy branch of a roadside tree and a section of the roof of the bus was ripped off.

The bus was stopped and the passengers were asked to get down and take another bus.

Local residents say they have complained to Chennai Corporation of the need to either trim the tree or chop it down but action has not been forthcoming.

  1. Due to Metro work many buses have been diverted. But this is not permanent. Are you going to chop off a tree just for this?

Tree cover in the Adyar-Mylapore-Alwarpet belt has been drastically reduced due to Metro work. Please do not chop off what is remaining. Try to find a go around. One go around I would suggest is to remove parking on this road. Due to its road width lots of owners park their cars haphazardly.

The same enforcement was carried out on CP Ramaswamy and only now you realise that it is actually suce a wide road. 😀

St Mary’s road is the only green cover in this area. 🙏🏼

    1. Vehicles are parked more at the narrowest portion of St.Mary’s Rd than at the wider places. Traffic Police stationed on Green ways Rd & TTK Rd throughout the day, never bother about this. They concentrate on catching riders without helmet.

    2. Yes mindless chopping of trees should atleast stop now..Will we ever learn our lessons.? We only look at short term solutions and not worry about longterm problems which arise due to such shortsightedness
