Due to staff shortage, Mylapore Head Post Office offers limited services; R. A. Puram post office is closed

Due to the shortage of staff, Mylapore head post office off Kutchery Road is offering only limited services like speed and registered posts.

Says an official from Mylapore Head Post office, “Though ours (postal services) is an essential service listed by the Tamil Nadu government and is allowed to function during this lockdown, our staff are not coming to work considering their personal safety. Hence, only speed and registered post services are functioning now. ”

“Also the speed/registered posts booked by clients may not be delivered on time. It can be delivered only after the 21-day lockdown as we are short-staffed. We are also informing the same to clients who come for booking.”

The post office has also reduced its working hours. It is now functioning only from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. unlike the usual timing of 10 a.m. to 6 p. m.

The R.A. Puram post office at Venkatakrishna Road, however, is closed.

Says Radhakrishnan, postmaster of R.A.Puram post office, “None of the staff turned up for work today. As we cannot function without them, the post office is closed. This is the case at most of the post offices in the city,” he says.

The situation may continue till the lockdown period is over, he says
