For Shitija Nahata baking has been a passion, a passion for many years.
A marketing and sales manager she sacrificed a good job and chose to venture out to do what she loves – produce and sell baked food.
Says Shitija, ” I specialise in cup-cakes and I make regular cupcakes and theme based ones and they are very popular.”
She is a resident of R. A. Puram and has opened her own retail bakery which is called ‘Cupcake Company’ and is at her residence.
This retail outlet was started a year back.
“I didn’t have any formal training in baking I learnt it from my mother. I later did a few courses in baking in Bombay and Delhi,” she says.
The idea of branching into cupcakes was because it they were not available in Chennai.
“Initially I started baking for my family and my relative and then I started supplying for Amethyst boutique. I was doing this for about 2 years before I decided to set up my own retail unit,” she adds.
Shitija also undertake customised, theme-based orders for parties, weddings, birthdays and other social occasions.
The standard cupcakes are priced between Rs.80 and 100, while the theme ones are priced between Rs.110 and 200 per piece.
