Mahathi Kannan, the grand niece of senior classical dancer Padma Subramaniam studying in Calibre Academy, Mrs. YGP School, Mylapore has been awarded the Science Olympiad Foundation’s Scholarship for English for the year 2011.
The Award comprises of a cash award of Rs.5000 and a certificate of excellence. Mahathi, is a student of class 10 and is a resident of Mylapore.
She was the only student from Chennai to win the bronze medal in the Royal CommonWealth essay competition for 2011. She is one among 100 students, across India, to win this award of the Science Olympiad Foundation and the British Council, said a school staff.
Students who show stable scoring of 85% to 90% in English in their exams are recommended by the Head of the Institution for this award.
