High Court directs police to act on complaint against St. John’s School

The Madras High Court has directed the Foreshore Estate police inspector to register an FIR against St. John’s Sec. School and Junior College, Mandaveli based on a complaint from three teachers.

A. John Paul, Belshiya and G. Sreelatha had been working in this school for sometime and resigned in 2010 and 2011 respectively.

The school management had asked them to submit their original educational qualification certificates when they joined. The school failed to return it when they resigned, the teachers said.

The management has also asked the teachers to pay three months salary if they resigned in the middle of the academic year.

The teachers lodged a complaint with the police. Since no action was taken on the complaint they moved the High Court.

The Court said that the school authorities did not have any authority in law to retain the documents and it was an offence under Sec.406 of IPC.
