Churches plan community events at Christmastime

Here are what local churches and their congregations are doing for Christmas.

The CSI Church opposite The Music Academy auditorium at the R K Salai / Alwarpet signal has collected 40 sets of sarees and dhotis for women and men in villages on the city’s fringe. 70 items like tiffin boxes and stationary items for children will also be distributed.

St. Thomas English Church’s Fellowship groups by men, women and the youth will be holding a campfire night followed by dinner for the church members this weekend.

On every Saturday in December, groups visit old age homes and share a lunch of biryani with the residents. Towels, powder, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and nighwear are being distributed to the homes based on their requirements.

The San Thome Cathedral community has collected over a 100 sets of new clothes for children of lower income dwellings last week. A list was put up in the church premises with details of each child’s name, age and gender for people to purchase new clothes based on the size and requirement. These will be distributed before Christmas.

A novel and huge crib will be set up in the stage on the church campus. The public can step in and see it – open till early January 2014.

The community group at St. Luke’s Church in Mandaveli is visiting old age homes and orphanages and providing meals for the residents, as per their choice and based on their own menu.
