A rare collection of over 2000 books from UK and USA are being exhibited at CitI Centre mall on R K Salai Road, Mylapore till end of January 2014.

JUTE FESTIVAL

On now till December 22, is a jute festival at Mylapore. Ethnic, eco-friendly products in textiles, stationary, gift items, decor, bags, footwear and handicrafts are for sale.

30 entrepreneurs from different states are exhibiting their jute consumer items.

CHRISTMAS GOODIES

FONDANT CHRISTMAS

On December 21, a fondant (sugared clay) Christmas decor will be created at R. A. Puram. A Christmas tree, a snowman, a happy penguin and Santa Claus will be some of the creations.

The workshop and games sessions are for kids aged 3 to 8 years and the fee is Rs. 240 per child.

SAREE EXHIBITION AT PADUKA

On December 21 and 22, an exhibition titled ‘The Athangudi Collection’ by Alwarpet-based boutique Paduka, will unveil a special show on organic cotton saris.

Paduka, which specialises in hand-woven women’s wear, has invited ethical fashion brand Ethicus to display its latest sari collection. The visual displays will showcase the organic cotton trail, from farm to fashion.

EVERYDAY OBJECT ART EXHIBITION

ANNUAL MANDALA POOJA

From December 21 to 27, the Ayyappa Bhakta Samajam will be conducting its annual Mandala Pooja at Mandaveli.

The Samajam is functioning since 1961 and has been organising this pooja jointly with the Kalyan Nagar Association in the month of Margazhi for several years. Several special events are planned for this year like its flagship event Laksharchana, Kramarchana, Sasthapreethi and Annadhanam. A maha Rudra Yagnam is planned for December 26, followed by a grand procession of the deities on December 27, the last day of the pooja.

MARGAZHI MAHOTSAVAM

From December 21 to 31, there will be a series of dramas besides music and dance, taking place at Mylapore.

This is a fest by Raadhu Arts – programmes begin from 5.30 p.m. onwards with music and dance performances, and from 7 p.m. onwards dramas will be staged by Kathady Ramamurthy, Y. Gee Mahendra, Varadarajan, Mappillai Ganesh, P. S. Raja and Augusto.

LECTURES ON HISTORY, ART & CULTURE

From December 23 to 27, the Tamil Heritage Trust is organizing a lecture series on Srirangam Temple at Mylapore.

The pechu kutcheris (lectures) will cover the history of the temple by Dr. Chitra Madhavan on December 23.

The plan and architecture will be explained by architect Roopmathi Anand on December 24, and a talk on Ramanuja by S. Kannan will take place on December 25. Archaeologist K. Sridharan will speak on December 26, and a selection of rituals, festivals and ‘araiyar sevai’ will be demonstrated by Dr. Swarnamalaya Ganesh on December 27.

YOGA WORKSHOP

From December 23 to 27, a ‘yoga for all’ five-day workshop will be held at Mylapore.

Simple asanas, pranayama and surya namaskar, general fitness tips and yoga therapy for specific ailments, and yoga for pregnant women will be covered. Participants of all ages from 3 to 85 years are welcome.

During all seven days of the Sapthaham, full meals will be served to inmates, old age homes, orphanages and homes for the poor and handicapped.

BOOK LAUNCH AT MYLAPORE
