Maha Sivarathri events: A checklist

Here is a look at some of the programmes planned by groups in the Mylapore area for Maha Sivarathri which falls on Feb 17:

At BVB, Mylapore

Two events will be held at BVB, Mylapore for Sivarathri. The first is a musical discourse by Kousalya Sivakumar on ‘Sivarathri Mahimai’ followed by a bharatanatyam performance by S. Sanath Kumar (disciple of Hariharans). Organised by BVB in association with TamilNadu Eyal Isai Nataka Manram.

The second is a musical night organised by Layapriyan Papanasam R. Kumar. Concerts will be held from 4 p.m. on Feb 17 to 6 a.m. on Feb 18. Highlights include performances by Prabavathi Ganesan (veena), Dr. Shobana Vignesh, Maharajapuram S. Ramachandran, Sruthi Kumar, K. Gayathri and others. A quiz will be held at the end of each concert and a gift will be given to the winner.

At Ramakrishna Math, Mylapore

Ramakrishna Math is celebrating Maha Shivarathri with a special puja and bhajan which will start at 8 p.m. on Feb 17 and will continue till 4 a.m. on Feb 18. Prasadam will be distributed after 5 a.m on Feb 18. At R. K. Mutt Road, Mylapore. Ph: 24621110.

At Sri Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Mylapore

RASA – Ramana Sunritya Aalaya will be presenting the Nritya Sthuthi dance festival from Feb 17 – 19 at Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Mylapore. Highlights include a special dance ballet – ‘Siva Shakthi Leela – Akshara Manamalai’ by Dr. Ambika Kameshwar, director, RASA and group and performances by students of Sri Sai Kala Mandir, disciples guru Padma Raghavan and several others.

At Karneeswarar Temple, Mylapore

The temple will be open all through the night on Feb 17 till 6 a.m. on Feb 18. Special abhisekhams, upanyasams, thevaram and veda parayanam have been planned.

At Arkay Convention Centre, Luz

Carnatica and Madhuradhwani present ‘Maha Sivarathri – Sivarchanai’ from 5 p.m. on Feb 17 to 8 a.m. on Feb 18. Several noted artistes will be performing including Gayathri Venkatraghavan, Dr. S.
