Police arrest six in case of assault on Mylapore temple priest

Mylapore police have arrested six people, said to be members of Dravida Viduthalai Kazhagam ( DVK) in connection with a case of assaulting a priest attached to the Sri Madhavaperumal temple, Mylapore on Monday night.

The assault took place when the priest, Vishwanatha Gurukkal was returning to his house on Karaneeswarar Koil Street. In his plaint, the priest said that the men stopped him on Bazaar Road, hit him, tugged at his sacred thread and then made off, after pushing him down.

The accused were secured on Tuesday and booked under six sections of the IPC. Yesterday, members of a Brahmanar Sangam gathered at Luz Circle and protested against the attacks – two more similar attacks were reported in the city.
