Chennai Corporation is doing the preliminary work in order to widen San Thome High Road, from the present width of 18 metres to 24 metros. This means private properties on either side of this busy road will have to be acquired. Installations like power junction boxes wil also be moved away and some avenue trees will have to be chopped.
San Thomites are yet to report on land acquisition moves that will be made to start the road widening process.
This is a busy road because it links two parts of the city on the east side and because there are over a dozen schools in the neighborhood.
