Residents, shop-keepers frown on slow pace of new pavement work on North Mada Street

Residents and shop-keepers on North Mada Street want Chennai Corporation to speed up the pavement laying work that is on now in this area. They say that it is going on at a slow pace and that the excavated portions along the street side makes it difficult for people to access the houses or shops.

In one case, the owner of a heritage house was aghast to see the steps to his independent house dug up by the contract workers.

This civic work is part of a hugely-delayed and contested project on the mada streets to widen pavements, and smarten the streetscape. But it is being done in in spurts and was suspended during the run up to the Assembly elections.

Work is over on East Mada Street.
