Even before they could launch their campaign, candidates who had filed their papers to contest in polls to Chennai Corporation came news on Tuesday afternoon that the Madras High Court had set aside the notification for these polls.
AIADMK party was the first to put out its list of candidates and those contesting in the wards in Mylapore which fall under the Teynampet Corporation zone filed their nominations. The DMK put out its list later as did other parties like the BJP.
In anticipation of the elections, many local contenders had painted neighborhood walls with slogans and legends, highlighting their own names and their designations in the party they belonged to.
These were whitewashed last weekend.
