The tea shops were in business since 5 a.m. and newspaper agents and delivery boys at work at road junctions at that time.

Milkmen were on their cycles, distributing milk to houses, the flower-vendors had set up shop on South Mada Street, near Sri Kapali Temple, the vegetable hawkers were busy near Sri Anjaneya Temple on Royaoettah High Road, Luz Circle and MTC buses were seen on R. K. Mutt Road and Luz Church Road.

Petrol stations were open; some had opened last night. Autos were seen plying and people heading to work, were on their way.
