The Mylapore Police have registered a case against an autorickshaw driver who attempted to kidnap a class III student on San Thome High Road on May 3.
According to the police, the girl was cycling near her home on Muthupandian Avenue, when the auto driver started following her. He then started asked for details about her while helping her drive the cycle. Soon he held her hand and started dragging her towards his auto, when a neighbour who had come out of her house to empty garbage called out to her.
After the neighbour raised an alarm, the girl’s grandfather came out and the auto driver sped away.
The police have collected CCTV footage from a few shops in the area and are investigating.
