Woman hit by bike racer on R. K. Salai dies

A minor, who was racing on a two-wheeler on Dr. R. K. Salai yesterday, hit two women as they were passing by the HDFC Bank located opposite E. V. Kalyani Hospital.

Both the women were taken to Government Hospital at Royapettah and then to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital where one of them, Meena, aged 47 years and a resident of Ekambaram Pillai Street, Mylapore was declared dead. Her friend Yashoda is battling for life.

According to police sources, six motorcycles (two of them had three riders) were racing on Dr. R. K. Salai towards Beach Road when the women were hit. The women, who had just completed their domestic chores at the house of an advocate at Triplicane, were thrown away in the impact. The two youngsters driving the bike fell down. The other riders escaped.

Prabhu, aged 19 years and a 16 year old from Alwarpet have been booked under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by endangering life or personal safety), 338 (causing grievous injury by endangering life or personal safety) and 304 (A) (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.
