Ration cards may have got smarter but if you possess one and rarely pick up your quota of rations from the neighbourhood store then you may want to keep a watch on your card.
For, there are a few recent instances where consumers have been billed for ration they did not pick up nor had to pay for.
Some weeks ago, a family in R. A. Puram were shocked when it found out that rations had been shopped for in their name. The couple approached the ration shop which is located in the Chennai Corporation complex ( C. P. Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet) and challenged the mysterious billing and the staff made polite excuses, saying it was an ‘error’.
The couple is wondering if this is a smart way of siphoning off rations.
