Police intensify checks on speed, drunken driving

City police have stepped up vigilance on arterial roads on weekends to check rash driving and motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol.

Checks are now intensified on Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai, Kamaraj Salai ( the beach road), in R A Puram and in San Thome.

Some of these roads are used by bikers to race down for fun or on bets. Recently, two maids were knocked down and died after they were hit by speeding bikers, all teens on Dr Radhakrishnan Salai.

Police claim to have registered a large number of cases this weekend, indicating that violations are going on despite warnings from the city police.

Police have also warned of action against school students using bikes without a license.
