Karthigai events at local temples

Here is an update on some of the Karthigai season events scheduled at temples in the Mylapore neighbourhood over the next few weeks..

At Sri Kapali Temple, Mylapore, 108 conches will be used for an abhishekam for Sri Kapaleeswarar, every Monday evening (for karthigai somavaram). On Dec 11, 1008 conches will be used for the sangabhishekam. Sokka pannai will be held on Dec 3 followed by pancha murthi veedi purappadu. The temple tank will be decorated with lamps from Dec 3-5 in the evening.

Karthigai deepam will be celebrated on Dec 2 at Sri Malleeswarar Temple, Mylapore. A special abhishekam for goddess Margadambal and Sri Malleswarar will be held in the morning.
In the evening, Sri Chandrasekarar will be taken on an ula purappadu after which sokkai pannai will be held. On Dec 11, 108 conches will be used for the sangabhishekam at 4 p.m. Maha deepa aradhanai will follow at 7 p.m.

At Sri Karaneeswarar Temple, Mylapore, 108 conches will be used for the sangabhishekam to be held for the deity every Monday evening till Dec 11. On Dec 3 – karthigai deep am – an abhishekam will be held in the morning. After gopuram deepa aradhanai in the evening, sokka panai will be held followed by veedhi purappadu.

-At Sri Vedanta Desikar Temple, Mylapore, karthigai deepam will be celebrated on Dec 3. In the evening, Perumal, Thirupaanalvar and Desikan will be taken on a veedi purappadu. Later all the main deities (moolavar) will adorn the Thaila Kappu wherein specially prepared herbal oils are applied on the deity for a specific period of time.
