Crowds gather at Marina clock tower roundabout to usher New Year

The arrangements made by city police at the roundabout off Gandhi statue on the Marina ensured for a orderly New Year celebration at midnight.

C R Balaji who was there says the crowd got excited as the hands of the clock inched their way to midnight but dispersed quietly after that. He says lots of women and children were seen on the sidewalks, soaking in the community celebration.

The clock tower at the roundabout was nicely illuminated with little bulbs and barricaded set around it so prevent the crowds that flocked here to raise their cheers and take selfies did not fall into the island space.

Motorists had to stop at the Light House end and near QMC on the other side.
