Teppam starts on grand note: at Sri Kapali Temple

The annual thai poosam teppam thiruvizha (float festival) of Sri Kapali Temple, held from Jan 20 to 22 began on a grand note on Sunday evening.

The float built with a number of logs and oil barrels and with a structure atop was decorated. The temple tank and gopurams were lit with colourful serial lights.

On Sunday evening, goddess Karpagambal and lord Kapaleeswarar were decorated with flowers and special alankaram, taken out in a procession to the west side of the tank and then set in the teppam which did the rounds in the shallow water five times.

On Jan 21 and 22, Lord Singaravelar along with goddesses Valli and Deivanai will be taken around the tank seven and nine times respectively.

Vedam, Theveram and nadaswaram and other music programmes will be performed in the float during the rounds.

These events are scheduled to happen between 7 pm and 10 pm on all three days.

People are allowed into the tank on all sides to watch the teppam.
