Water woes: Demand is high, says Metro Water official

The wait for water is frustrating. It takes more than 20 days for lorries to deliver water to residents in the neighbourhood.

When asked why there is a delay in delivery, the Metro Water area engineer for Zone 9 says, “There have been no rains for quite some time now. For the Mylapore area, the water is supplied from the desalination plants at Minjur and Nemmeli, from Veeranam lake and from borewells. We are fulfilling orders as soon as we get them, but since water supply is low and the demand is high it takes a little longer for the lorries to deliver water. We have even stopped delivery to commercial establishments, all the water is supplied to residents only”.

He continues, “Based on the availability of lorries, we have restricted the booking of lorries with 6000 litres capacity to 50 per day. There is however no restriction for residents who request 9000 and 12000 litres”.

“The centralized number which residents can call to make their bookings is 45674567. Bookings can also be made online at https://chennaimetrowater.tn.gov.in/”, he adds.
