Amma Patrol launched by chief minister: two cars for Mylapore

Amma Patrol or police patrol for women’s safety was inaugurated by the chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Monday morning (Aug.26). These Innova patrol cars, painted in pink and white will be used to help police deal with violence and crime against women and children.

A. Jayalakshmi, the DCP of the Mylapore zone says, “We have been given two cars. One will make rounds of the Mylapore and Kotturpuram area and another will make rounds of the Royapettah area. The vehicles will spread awareness about crimes against women, drug abuse and other related issues. Surveillance will be undertaken at schools, bus stops, colleges and other areas which women frequent”.

“Both the child helpline number (1098) and the women’s helpline number (1091) will be displayed on the vehicle. This is to assure women and children that whenever they are in distress all they need to do is to call us and we will reach the spot immediately and offer relief,” she adds.
