With people aware that the regulations to come into force on Tuesday evening to combat the virus spread, there is no great rush in the local markets or large stores.
Last evening, there were queues at many stores – in San Thome and in Alwarpet – but this is not the scene as of 5 p.m.
Stores are telling their customers that they will remain open for supplies – that even drinking water supply will be in order.
However, some NGOS keen to help centres that house seniors and sick say they could not buy essentials in north Chennai since shops closed early and quickly bought some locally.
