Pharmacies reduce working hours, cut down door delivery due to staff shortage

Due to shortage of staff, several pharmacies in the neighbourhood are finding it hard to run their businesses.

While some medical stores have shortened their working hours, others say they no longer offer door delivery service.

Said the staff of a pharmacy on Royapettah High Road, “We have reduced our working hours as no staff are turning up for work. Earlier we used to work till 10 p.m. But now we close at 5.30 p.m. itself”

A staff of a medical store at R.A.Puram said, “All our staff were from outside Chennai. They were living at women’s hostels and working at our shop. However, after lockdown, they left to their hometowns. So we are unable to provide door delivery. ”

“In addition, supply has also been low. I’m somehow managing to get essential medicines for customers, ” She says.

At another medical store in R.A.Puram, the staff said they work only till 12 noon due to staff shortage.
