Corporation’s senior officer says all steps being taken to tackle areas with big rise of cases

Chennai Corporation’s Regional Deputy Commissioner, Dr Alby John says he and his team are taking all the steps required to address the large number of virus cases in Ward 173 – far south end of the larger Mylapore neighbourhood.

This area accounts for over 70 cases as on Saturday morning and one death.

“We are also being strict in enforcing the regulations,” Jhn told Mylapore Times this afternoon. “The big challenge is that these areas are very congested ones and once one person gets infected it quickly gets to other.”

So what steps have been put in place?

A section of the far south end of Kamaraj Salai has been barricaded.

All non-essential shops here have been told to shut down.

Police have been posted to discourage people from roaming around. Health workers visit every home to check if people have got fever and if there are sign of it, these people are moved to Fever Camps close-by for further followup.

People are also given an Ayurvedic drink and some tablets for boosting immunity and told to stick inside homes.

Ward 173 falls under the Adyar zone of GCC limits with its zonal office on L B Road, Adyar.
