Not many domestic violence cases reported in the neighbourhood, says Mylapore All Women Police Inspector

Mylapore All Women Police Inspector says that only very few domestic violence cases have been reported from the neighbourhood during this lockdown.

Says the Inspector of All Women Police Station off Kutchery Road, Mylapore, “Since lockdown, not many domestic violence cases have been reported from Mylapore. We just received one case where a woman resident of Srinivasapuram was facing problems as her husband was beating her after consuming alcohol.”

After receiving the complaint, she says they immediately rescued and sent the woman to her sister’s house.

“As her husband was under the influence of alcohol, we asked the area thalaivars to bring the man to station the next morning. The next day, the man came to station and admitted to his mistake. He has given an undertaking that he will not harm his wife in the future. So we have left him. But we will keep monitoring the case closely, ” she says.

Women who face domestic violence may reach the police at 100. “Based on the area where the incident is reported, the call will be diverted to the respective All Women Police station. Women can also go to their nearest police station to get help.”
