T. V. S. Mani, leader in costuming classical dancers passes away

T. V. S. Mani, one of most well-known designers for classical dancers’ needs and a  Mylaporean passed away on Sunday morning, May 3.

He was the man behind Shanti Tailors / Dance Needs which is based in Sannidhi Street, near Sri Kapali Temple’s eastern zone.

Mani started small in 1967 after learning the skills from another famed tailor known for dance needs, and grew his way to the top, doing dance costumes, primarily for Bharatanatyam dancers over many decades.

He was the go-to designer for NRI artistes too. The shop expanded with growing business and the swank space in Mylapore provides every need of a dancer.

His two sons have been managing the business which also offers dance jewellery and accessories. In keeping with online demands, Shanti Tailors offered online bookings and delivery too. A daughter ran her own related business.
