Palam silks in Mylapore uses video calls to sell saris during lockdown

Palam Silks, the popular silk sari store in Mylapore has started selling saris via video calls to serve its customers during lockdown.

The store that sells saris including kanjivarams, tussars and soft silks launched its video call service soon after the lockdown in March.

And now, most of its customers have begun buying saris through Skype or WhatsApp video calls.

Says Vineeta from the marketing department of Palam Silks,  “Understanding the current scenario, almost 60 % of our customers including seniors have beautifully embraced this new mode of buying saris. Through the lockdown, many bought bridal saris and casual saris this way.”

A distinct aspect of this service is that people can now virtually visit all their branches to choose saris.

She says, “Earlier when people visiting one branch required a sari variety/design available in our other outlet, we would direct them to go there. However, most would not be able to go due to say time constraints. But the video call facility has enabled us to virtually show them a range of saris at all our branches.”

Their physical stores at Luz Church Road and Musuri Subramaniam Road in Mylapore have also reopened.

Vineeta says that they are adhering to all precautions instructed by the government to prevent virus spread.”We keep a track on the temperatures of our staff. Customers are also asked to use hand sanitizer before entering the store.”
