Not many new members are coming into the gym to exercise, says the owner of this gym

When gyms were allowed to open up in the second week of August, V. T. Mahadevan, the owner of Fitness Paradise at R. K. Mutt Road, was really looking forward to meeting his old customers who he hadn’t seen since the lockdown in March.

He also hoped that a few new members would join. But he says that has not happened as several of them were not sure it they would be able to continue once they paid.

Mahadevan says, “When we opened up in August about 30% of the old members started coming in and that hasn’t changed now. We have about 55 home makers who were members prior to the lockdown but only 5 of them are coming in now. Most of them are either busy with their child’s online classes or have senior citizens at home and they are not willing to put them at risk”.

And since seniors above the age of 50 are not allowed into gyms, he says that too has resulted in a decrease in the number of people visiting the gym.

Mahadevan says all those who come in need to get their temperature and oxygen level checked. The equipment is sanitised frequently and necessary precautions with respect to social distancing is also taken.

The gym is located at 52, R. K. Mutt Road, Mylapore. They are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. everyday. For details contact them at 9884255666, 48566677.
