A number of people were on the sands of the Marina this Thursday morning ( Sept.17) to conduct and take part in the Mahalaya amavasya rituals that remember ancestors this day.
They sat in groups, some large in number and took part in the rituals. In some cases, a single priest conducted it for a dozen or more people who sat in circles.
Though police were on patrol on the Marina service road, they did not discourage the gatherings.
