Food for virus-affected: here is a check list

A few home-based food. makers and caterers / restaurants in the area are offering food that suits people who are quarantined or ill from the virus.

Here is a check list –

Thaligai in Luz ( opp. Nageswara Rao Park) says its diet is prescribed by the well-known Ayurvedic doctor Dr. PLT Girija. It follows the ‘pathiyam’ cooking process . It offers a package for 7 days or 14 days three times a day. Pick up or delivery to doorstep  also done through  Swiggy / Dunzo.

Janaki Kanya Rajesh, a 27-year-old resident of R.A. Puram, started this home-cooked food sservice just one week ago. She gives first preference to people affected with COVID and senior citizens followed by whoever wants it. She refrains from cooking vegetables that leave out water. For lunch she offers rice, sambar/kootu, rasam, a lot of veggies and sundal. For dinner she offers kichdi, upma and idly with a variety of chutneys. She says she doesn’t charge for COVID patients but they can donate what they afford. Lunch without rice costs around Rs. 75 and with rice it is Rs. 100. She collaborates with Dunzo and Swiggy to deliver food.

Gnaanam, a part of Gnaanam Women’s Hostel opposite Citi Centre mall, Mylapore offers both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals but customises the  food for patients. “Some customers ask for pepper rasam or chicken soup and we make it as per their request,” says Ashmitha, co-ordinator. They use Rapido, porter etc to deliver. Breakfast and dinner: Idly, dosa, pongal, poori, chappati etc. For vegetarian lunch they offer rice, dal/sambar, rasam, vegetable, curd and pappad. Non-vegetarian can be customised. Veg it is Rs. 75 per meal and Rs. 150 for non-veg.

Jude’s M&N Kitchen was curated three months ago to cater to senior citizens and now they offer food even to COVID affected patients. Cooking with less oil and spices and menu is on easily digestible food. For breakfast they offer idly, dosa, aapam, idiyappam, vada. Snacks like sundal, fruit juices, tea/coffee etc also provided. Lunch items – sambar rice/ mor kozhambu/ brinji / dal rice and for dinner they provide idly, dosa and idiyappam, says Dr. Nirupa Jude, 47, founder. Delivery via Dunzo, V fast and Zapster. Breakfast
and lunch are priced at Rs. 65 and lunch costs Rs. 120.
