How three businesses are keeping their services alive this lockdown

Seetharaman of Kanchi Weavers, a fourth-generation silk saree merchant says his whole
business revolves around WhatsApp today.

His store is in the shadow of Sri Kapali Temple but the strategic location is not what one can bank on today, at lockdown time.  Ideas alone can work.

So  Seetharaman and his team markets their unique sarees  via the video call facility. He also has a website though which people can screen the latest and place orders.

“Many people buy silk sarees only after they physically touch and feel its texture. Only that experience is lacking on online business,” he says.

They ship their products to customers worldwide. Some courier services are avoiding door
delivery and ask shoppers to collect it from their office.

Says Seetharaman, “ The shipment of products to Australia, that I did a couple of days ago was smooth. But the courier service in which the shipment to Bangalore was booked yesterday mentioned that the product may or may not reach on time.”

The owners of Prabhu Jewellery, a jewellery rental services shop started in 1985 and based on Kutchery Road, Mylapore say that today’s business is only 30% of its regular sales.

So they have turned to WhatsApp, Instagram and their website to drive whatever orders they can at lockdown time.  The products chosen by the customers are shipped using Dunzo.

Says Shankari, the owner’s wife says “Technology is the only way that helps us during this
period.” For urgent needs, they allow local area customers to be at the store and collect their needs.

This shop is at 116/156, Kutchery Road. Contact: 90032 78156

Honey Beauty Parlour in Mylapore is offering home service for the residents of Mylapore and Alwarpet at this moment as parlours remain closed. The services, known by the regulars when. asked for are booked on the phone.

“Our regular customers in and around Mylapore, ping me and fix appointments and our staff wear PPE kit when they are at work at the client’s place,” says Anita, the owner.
