Stores in Alwarpet’s TTK Road zone are slowly come alive. But shopping is muted yet.
One recent launch on this road was that of the boutique Her Choice, located opposite Sankara Hall on the north end of the road.
Kavita Agarwal started this business in 1982 in Cison’s Complex, that buzzing shopper’s delight in Egmore once, a store called by the name of Megha. She started with a portfolio of cotton dress materials with a tailoring unit in a 200 sqft space there.
Slowly, she expanded the product portfolio to readymades and bridal wear
Subsequently, she opened another boutique in Cisons Complex by the name of Sandhya Boutique in 1985 and then started a wholesale unit catering to local and international clientele in 1986.
Then came the standalone alone store on T.T.K Road in 2002 and rebranded all stores to the name Her Choice.
Today, Kavita is focussed only on the TTK Road store and focuses on custom wear and designs for every occasion. As she says, “ For all our clients it is all about the fit and feel.” Which means, the store is for shoppers who keep off on-line shopping and want to be choosy about the materials and the tailoring too.
It has been a struggle through the pandemic season, as it has been for all retail and now, Kavita’s son has taken charge here.
And he intends to tap into technology to push the business – digital marketing is in the works, he says.
