December 26 morning has been for fisherfolks in the Marina kuppams a time of remembrance. Of the huge disaster of the tsunami that hit this coast in 2004 that December morning.
This morning, small groups of men and women in each kuppam conducted a traditional ritual on the sands and walked up to the water to make offerings and prayed to the sea to protect them, keep them safe.
Fisher groups in Mullima Nagar and Srinivasapuram conducted this ritual 8.30 am onwards and then opened their fish stalls for sale, since this is a Sunday and sales are high.
