Marina will be off-limits on New Year’s eve

No meet-ups, no mass cheering, no drive pasts.

The Marina is off-limits from New Year’s eve this year too; a regulation announced by the state, in line with pandemic-time steps the government intends to take.

Police will be on patrol, barricades will deny access to the beach and its road and by 11 p.m. vehicles will not be allowed parking on the main road.

In normal time, a large number of people gather around the Marina clock-tower round tana near the Gandhi statue, to raise a cheer as a new year breaks.
