Sacred space, oil lamps and no speakers. Margazhi concerts at dawn.

The space is sacred. There are only oil lamps. There are no mikes or speakers. And the musician artistes are left to their own meditative selves to play the music.

The venue is Sri Anjaneya Raghavendra swami temple on Mylapore’s Salai Street.

For a few years now, the VVS Foundation’s Ekaantha Sangeetha Seva has been held here, curated by violinist V V S Murari and featuring all the top and young artistes.

This season’s fest began on Friday morning with Vittal Ramamurthy on the violin, supported by Srihari Vittal, Srimushnam Rajarao on the mridangam and Karthick on ghatam.

Concerts start at 6 am, run for 90 minutes and are open to all. On till January 16, 2022.
