St. Raphael’s girls make a mark at rowing meet: they are coached by Madras Boat Club

A group of students of St. Raphael’s Girls School in San Thome who have been coached in rowing at the Madras Boat Club are now producing the fruits of labour on the Adyar river.

They have excelled at the recently-held Tamil Nadu Rowing championships. This meet was held at the Sri Ramachandra Water Sports Centre in Porur.

These were the medal winners in the St Raphael’s group in the sub-junior section of the meet –
Coxless pair: A. Messey Monila (gold) S. Divya Dharshini (gold)
Coxless pair: P. Vidhya Sree ( silver) S. Hemalatha (silver)
Double scull: A. Mariya Keerthana (bronze).

For over a year now, Madras Boat Club as part of its CSR programme has been coaching about 8 girls from this San Thome School; they have been training even during the pandemic time in 2021.

They have attained the first level of competitiveness under their coach S. Hareendra Shankar, a Mandaveli resident and are guided by the school’s PT staff Priscilla.

N. Subramanian, the president of the Club has also taken a keen interest in this programme of the Club.
