Rotary Club of Madras celebrated International Women’s Day with an event that certified a group of women who had been skilled in new skills that can enable them employment in the city.
This function was held on March 18 at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore.
A note from the Club said that ‘the training is a combination of traditional like tailoring and embroidery along with digital literacy which helps women get jobs in offices, shops and stores.
‘Over the last 18 months, a lot of these women have been the sole breadwinners because their husbands have either passed away due to COVID 19 or lost jobs and this empowerment is what is needed at the moment.’
The women who were trained come in from inner city areas like Rotary Nagar, Selaiyur, Sembakkam.
