A huge crowd gathered on Thursday evening at the Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple to have darshan of the abhisekam
followed by procession on the occasion of Pradosham on the first day of the Tamil New Year.
Several hundreds of devotees accompanied the procession inside the temple complex with them chanting
slokas in chorus.
The long queue to have darshan of Karpagambal extended right up to the eastern raja gopuram.
Past 9pm, Kapaleeswarar and Karpagambal went around the temple as part of the 8th day of the Vasantha Utsavam.
This was followed by processions around the Vasantha mandapam accompanied by nagaswaram music, Vedic recital, Othuvars’ sacred verses, mukha veena and melam music.
It was 10pm when the rituals and processions ended with the divine couple carried back to the alankara mandapam.
