Geetha started organic food and products store. Now, she is into catering too.

V. Geetha, the person behind Diya Organic N Natural branched off into an allied business recently – to cater home-made food made from the foodstuff she sources for and sells at her store on P. S. Sivasamy Salai in Mylapore.

This HR consultant who chose to launch her own business, after she was convinced of the positiveness of organic foods got feedback from her senior customers at the store who wanted ‘home-made’ food.

The store, which moved to this location from the heart of Mylapore started stocking 150-plus products. Geetha says it now has over 1000 products. “We have all the products that a person needs from waking up time to day’s end,” she says.

With stocks of a variety of rice and vegetables, Geetha launched her catering wing – using the space at the rear of the store as the kitchen.

She says she dipped into her customer base of over 500 clients, got the word out on the catering service and began to get orders.

“Since my store had all that was needed to cook lunch and dinner it was easy to get going,” says Geetha.

For lunch, varieties of rice and vegetables are delivered. For dinner, the menu is closer to North Indian dishes – phulka, paratha and rotis and vegetable side dishes.

This catering service is about three months old.

Geetha says her team is small and she personally supervises the kitchen to ensure her clients, mostly senior citizens get the right food.

The store is open 8 a.m. to 8.30 p.m.

Catering order for lunch must be placed by 10 a.m. and for dinner by 5 p.m. Delivery is arranged in and around Mylapore.
