Today. ( Sept.25) being Mahalaya Amavasai, large numbers of people gathered off the two sides of the tank of Sri Kapali Temple in Mylapore to perform rituals that remember the family members who have passed on.
Priests took turns to cater to each person.
The temple closed all access gates to the tank; a watchman said the temple does not want the tank to be left messy.
So priests and people chose to sit on the sidewalks of R K Mutt Road and some, on the easten fringe, to carry out the rituals and prayers.
