Chennai Metro: Marina beach skyline is full of tall cranes

The skyline of the Marina opposite the Tamil Nadu Police headquarters is changing. And starkly.

When you stand and look north from the light house end, all you now see up there are cranes and cranes and large earth equipment which rise up.

There is a great deal of preliminary work that is going on on the Chennai Metro rail project in this area – which will eventually be a hub for the rail line and also a unique underground station.

In recent time, the barricades have moved south and now cover the lawns area where the statue Veeramamunivar is standing, just short of the area around the Kamaraj statue.

A section of the beach road has also been barricaded all along, off what used to be the pavement popular with walkers.
