The morning before the birth anniversary celebrations of Mylapore’s Vaishnavite saint-poet Pey Azhvaar was to be the grand procession on the chariot at the Madhava Perumal Temple. However, the monsoon rain that hit the city this week continued into Wednesday morning leading to the cancellation of the chariot procession.
The Prabhandham members arrived in good numbers and led the simple procession inside the temple, reciting the sacred verses of Thiru Mangai Azhvaar.
At the end of the procession, devotees were presented with the sacred puliyotharai thaligai.
This evening, Pey Azhvaar is scheduled to go on a street procession in a flower-decorated pallakku.
There will be a grand day-long celebration on Thursday on the occasion of Aipasi Sathayam marking the birthday of Pey Azhvaar.
