Newly-built Urban Health Centre of Chennai Corporation in Alwarpet opened but will take some time to function

The newly-built Urban Health Centre of Chennai Corporation in Alwarpet was formally opened this past week, via video conferencing by chief minister M K Stalin.

The centre, on C. P. Ramaswamy Road, closer to the flyover end, was demolished and its operations were run closeby, near the Mylapore MLA’s office.

The new centre was ready some months ago and had to await the launch that was tied up with other civic projects.

A medical officer of this zone says the centre will be operational once all the medical equipment, resources and furniture is shifted from the make-shift space to the centre.

The health centre deals with basic illnesses including handling women in early pregnancy. It does not have any advanced medical facilities here.

It will be open all days of the week though half-days on Sundays when only limited staff will be on duty.
