Cathedral choir does rounds of San Thome, singing carols inside colonies

The music of the Christmas season has been in the air around St Thomas Catherdal in San Thome in recent days.

First, the church hosted a ecumenical Christmas carol singing event at a hall in this campus. Choirs from ten churches of different Christian denominations performed here.

On Sunday last, after the evening Holy Mass, the seven choirs of the cathedral – the four English choirs and three Tamil choirs, took turns to present carols and Christmas songs in the church.

And from Monday, every evening, 7 p.m. onwards, over three days, a small band of singers and musicians will get into a mini van and tour areas in San Thome, where Christians reside and sing a carol or two at the street corner, while a volunteer acting as Santa Claus, moves among the onlookers to greet them.
