MLA begins talks with civic officials on restoring playground in San Thome

Greater Chennai Corporation officials say that the cost of raising a playground in San Thome, located off Marina Loop Road will cost about Rs.1 crore.

This was conveyed to the Mylapore MLA, Dha Velu last week when he visited this spot. Local area councillor Amirda Varshini was present at this review.

Velu says he has suggested setting up a gymnasium, wash rooms and creating a children’s play area in this campus.

He says that he is prepared to allocate some funds from the MLA’s constituency development fund.

Local area youths suggest that providing lighting at the ground, as has been done at ‘Alphonsa’ GCC playground in Mandavelipakkam, will allow them to play here past dusk and also discourage illegal acts.

The ground, abandoned for years, is now a dump yard and urinal space.
