Good Friday services at local churches. Donations for charity will be made in many places.

Good Friday is observed by Christians across the world with prayer and fasting. It is on this day that Jesus Christ was crucified and put to death on the cross.
Here is a brief listing of special religious services at local churches.
CSI Saint Luke’s Church. Mandaveli
Service will  begin at 11.30 a.m.  Pastor Rev. G. Dhanasekaran will lead the meditation. Service will be followed by a light fellowship lunch at 3.30 p.m. . Church secretary Cecil Raja Moses said that as most church members fast, they will be provided with hot cross buns after the service.
CSI St. Thomas Tamil Church. San Thome
Service will begin at 12 noon and go on till 3 p.m. Pastor D. Paul William will conduct the service. Secretary of the pastorate committee Jebaraj Koilpillai said that all church members were given bags to collect rice for 40 days from the public during the Lenten period. The rice that they collected will be handed over to the church to be distributed to orphanages and homes for the aged.
CSI Good Shepherd Church, Mylapore. On TTK Road.
Service will commence at 12 noon. Meditation will be held.  Secretary of the pastorate committee, Y .Bhuvanesh Kumar said that some church members usually bring porridge, musk melon, watermelon, fruit juice and cool drinks and distribute it to the congregation – to be had after fasting is. broken.
All church members were given hundials to collect money and bags to collect rice. These hundials and rice bags will be placed at the altar to be distributed to the poor later on.
San Thome Cathedral
A blood donation camp is being organised at 9 a.m. by the Vincent de Paul unit of this parish.
Fr. Dyson Rajarathinam, senior assistant parish priest said that the Way of the Cross and the Liturgy and Veneration of the Cross will be at 5 pm.
The Tamil service will be held in the church campus and the English service will be at St. Bedes School hall.
Our Lady of Guidance Church, R. A. Puram
Way of the Cross will be held in Tamil at 6.30 a.m. and in English at 9.15 a.m.  Veneration of the Cross service will commence at 5 p.m and after the service, a statue of the body of Jesus will be taken out in procession within the church campus.
 Fr. Y. F.  Bosco, parish priest said every family in the parish was given a Lenten collection box to collect money for the poor and were requested to put in a handful of rice in a bag every day. Parishioners will hand them over along with groceries and toiletries to be distributed to the poor and needy.
Shrine of Our Lady of Light, Luz
Way of the Cross and adoration will be conducted from 10 am. both in English and Tamil. Veneration of the Holy Cross will be held in Tamil at 3. p.m. in the church campus and in English at 5 p.m. at Saint Isabel’s campus.
A video presentation of the Passion of Christ will be screened at 6 pm, in the church compound, said Fr Alex, assistant parish priest.
Our Lady of Visitation Church, R. A. Puram
Way of the Cross in English will be at 10 am and in Tamil at 2 p.m. The Liturgy and the Good Friday service will be held at 3 pm. Parish Priest Fr. Anthony Raj said that there will be a procession after the service.
A blood donation camp was held  last week and an eye screening camp conducted a couple of weeks ago at the parish. Twenty five people underwent free eye surgery and were also provided with glasses free of cost.
